Por lo visto, en el contexto de Java, esas unidades corresponden a "child unit" y "parent unit" (conforme a un modelo de "herencia" [inheritance]) que siguen los programadores de Java.

Por lo que se ve, lo de \"parent\" se llama en español \"padre\" (genérico de madre o padre) y lo de \"child\" se llama \"hija\" por concordancia con el género femenino de \"unidad\" (o de \"clase\").
